Salesforce is a cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) platform that helps organizations coordinate their marketing, sales, and support efforts. It centralizes all the data on a given customer so that all the teams within an organization, or across several different organizations, can easily and instantly access the information they need to provide a pleasant and cohesive customer experience.

Salesforce functions as both a Software as a Service (SAAS) that’s ready to use out of the box as well as a Platform as a Service (PAAS) which provides a platform and framework for developing custom websites and applications.

Salesforce solutions cover a variety of needs. The Salesforce Sales Cloud is the core CRM solution for the management of marketing, sales, and customer support, while the Salesforce Service Cloud comes with additional tools for businesses focused on improving customer service and satisfaction.

Salesforce’s Marketing Cloud enables you to track and manage marketing campaigns and content and also includes powerful marketing automation tools using Pardot.

Salesforce also offers an Analytics Cloud which permits you to visually analyze your customer and sales data.

On the more technical side of things, Salesforce’s Internet of Things (IoT) Cloud lets your company efficiently monitor and process data from your connected devices in real time. Finally, developers can use the Salesforce App Cloud to build custom applications.

At its most basic level, organizations use Salesforce to get their product, commercial, and service teams on the same page. The software allows employees to track where a customer is in the pipeline as well as their activity in a single glance. Salesforce also provides a simple way to quickly communicate within an organization as well as with customers and partners.

By utilizing Salesforce’s online application rather than legacy CRM solutions, organizations can significantly reduce costs and development time as expensive on-premises servers or software licenses are no longer needed.

A solution manager in Salesforce is a user who has the ability to edit, delete, and make Salesforce solutions visible within the platform’s service portals. Most organizations assign this role to product experts who possess strong customer service skills.

Salesforce Knowledge is a support portal where both customers and employees can ask and answer questions about the technology. Within the knowledge management platform, questions and answers, called Articles, can be published in a way that makes them either visible to customers or only internally within the organization. 

Salesforce solutions are answers to Knowledge Base queries which are posted for both customers and employees to view. While solution managers can choose whether Articles are made public or kept private, Salesforce solutions are available to all.

In addition to offering more control over the visibility of published replies, Salesforce Knowledge also enables managers to categorize and segment articles. These advanced functionalities improve search and integration and result in more rapid case resolution as opposed to Salesforce solutions.
